        To the Honorable George Clinton,
                        President of the Senate of the United States of
                                                                    America.
                The Subscribers, the Electors duly appointed by the State of
Maryland, to that the President and Vice President of the United
States of America do hereby certify that on Wednesday, the seventh
day of December Inst. then, met at the City of Annapolis, the place
designated by the Law of the State of Maryland for the Electors of
President and Vice President of the United States, on the part of the
State of Maryland to meet to perform the trust reposed in them,
and that they did then and there vote by district ballots, on which
were named the person voted for as President and the person
voted for as Vice President and on examination of the ballots it
approved that James Madison of the State of Virginia, as President
of the United States of American, had nine votes, and George
Clinton of the State of New York, as Vice President of the United States
of America had nine votes; Charles Cotesworth Pinckney of the State
of South Carolina, as President of the United States of America, had
two votes and Rufus Ring, of the State of New York, as Vice President
of the United States of America had two votes; the said persons
are therefore returned by the Electors of the State of Maryland
as having obtained the aforesaid number of votes.  The evidence of
the Authority, under which the Subscribers have acted as hereto are signed.
                    Done, at the City of Annapolis on Wednesday, the seventh
day of December in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred
and Eight, and of the Thirty third year of the Independence
of the United States of America.
                    In witness whereof we have hereto set our Hands and
affixed our Seals.
